This dedicated group of people pioneered protection of the river.

Over the past twenty years they have been a small but absolutely dedicated and passionate group of volunteers who have worked long and tirelessly to raise our awareness of this natural asset.

They have conducted a platypus survey and through their efforts have highlighted the health of the river in supporting the platypus population and the necessity to protect their habitat.

This award is in recognition of their efforts – not only the current members of the Association but all who have been involved in that period.

Werribee River Association was presented with the inaugural Platypus Award for Groups by Ms Jan Goates, Chair of the Quality Community Plan during World Environment Week, June 1999.
