Join Werribee Riverkeeper, David Tsardakis for an informative morning walk along one of the most loved stretches of the Werribee River, exploring how stormwater runoff, litter, and catchment pressures shape the health of our local waterways.
Bungies Waterhole has long been a gathering place. It’s a green pocket along the river where birdlife, native vegetation, and the slow flow of water create a space that feels surprisingly wild, given its urban setting. Yet like so many waterways across Melbourne’s west, this section of the river carries the hidden story of everything that happens upstream. From the stormwater drains that empty into the river after rain, to the litter that finds its way into gutters and creeks, to the broader pressures of urban growth and changing land use, the condition of the Werribee River reflects the choices we make across the entire catchment.
This two-hour walk is designed for anyone curious about how our local river works, what threatens it, and what can be done to protect it. The Werribee River is not an isolated waterway, it is part of a larger system that includes tributaries, wetlands, floodplains, and ultimately Port Phillip Bay. What happens in streets, parks, and industrial areas upstream affects the river downstream.
The guided walk is open to all community members, families, and anyone with an interest in learning more about the Werribee River. It is an ideal activity for people who want to understand their local environment better, meet like-minded community members, and explore a beautiful stretch of the river that is often overlooked.

Please note there are no bathroom facilities at this site. Wear suitable outdoor clothing, walking shoes, be sunsmart and don’t forget your water bottle!
