Our River

Werribee, or Wirribi, is a Wadawurrung word meaning spine, or backbone. The river connects us to each other and to Country. It is an important ecosystem for native flora and fauna, such as the platypus and river red gum. For traditional owners, the river system has meant life for thousands of years. Now, as settlement grows along the banks of the river and adjoining waterways, it’s a place where we can relax, exercise, enjoy and connect with nature.

The Werribee River Association shares the voices of our local communities, who are concerned and passionate about improving the health of our river ecosystem.
