Volunteer at Cobbledick’s Ford

The Friends of Cobbledicks Ford conservation group need your help. Come join them each month, on the 2nd Friday of the month between 10am – 12noon, between March and October. All welcome to get involved in activities that include litter clean up, weeding, maintenance, plantings and watering.

Cobbledick’s Ford is a secluded reserve on 24 hectares, with an open area protected by shrubs and trees, including impressive specimens of river red gums. It is a beautiful part of the Werribee River, in between Wyndham and Melton.

The park is named after a bluestone ford that was built by early settlers to facilitate the movement of cattle. Samuel Cobbledick came from a whaling family in western Victoria and leased the property as a dairy farm.

Cobbledicks Ford is surrounded by deep escarpments caused by volcanic activity, millions of years ago.

The Werribee Blue-box, a unique and endangered subspecies of Eucalypt, is closely associated with Cobbledick’s Ford. In recent years, Wyndham City has installed protective fencing around individuals so they can self-seed. City environment crews, along with Friends of Cobbledick’s Ford, have also conducted regular plantings of indigenous grasses, rushes and lilies to restore habitat.

Come be part of restoring this beautiful natural reserve and biodiversity hotspot.

Wear suitable clothing, footwear and be sun smart. BYO water bottle and own gloves. Tools provided. Light refreshments to follow.
