Platypus Watch – Putting Perridak Back on Track Citizen Science Project
Be part of this exciting project as we investigate water quality at known platypus locations along the lower Werribee River. This is a partnership project with Victoria University and is generously supported by Greater Western Water.
This is an opportunity to become citizen scientists, to join the project’s water sample collection events, water sample testing and analysis events. There will be a guided tour and educational session within VU laboratories, and site visits along the Werribee River to review habitat and vegetation quality.
Our first session will involve meeting with researchers and specialist Environmental Engineers with a background in water science, treatment and analysis on site at Cobbledicks Streamside Reserve to conduct water sampling. We will then take a stroll with our Riverkeeper to explore this scenic reserve and talk about some of the features of this unique location.
The walk to the water testing location is on a paved road, and the reserve has level tracks with some slopes and uneven ground to visit the river side.
Meet at 9.50 am at the car park https://maps.app.goo.gl/u2P6PeRNtnNbzrFKA There is no public transport available and participants must arrange own transport to/from the location.
We will then travel to the second testing site at Riverbend Historical Park, Werribee https://maps.app.goo.gl/u2P6PeRNtnNbzrFKA There is a short walk here from the car park to the testing site on a walking track.
The session will conclude at 12pm.
Wear suitable outdoor clothing, walking shoes and be sunsmart. Bring drinking water, food and medications as required.
There are no facilities at either reserve.
