Seaweed Safari and Shoreside Stewardship

Werribee River Association – SUMMER BY THE SEA EVENT

SEAWEED SAFARI AND SHORELINE STEWARDSHIP

Date: Sat JAN 17th, 10.30 – 12.30pm

Tickets free, but spaces limited so bookings essential

Come along for a Seaweed and shoreline discovery safari at Werribee South River mouth where the river meets the bay. Join Werribee River Association and experienced seaweed forager Chris Rockley to explore what is being washed up. As we learn and move along we’ll leave the area much more loved than we started.

Port Phillip Bay is home to a wide array of seaweeds. They create a habitat for the many smaller sea creatures and food for crustaceans and fish. They are fascinating to explore more closely when they wash up on shore. As well as being edible for sea creatures, some are highly sought after by humans for food and industry. Learn the types of algae and which of the seaweeds are edible.

In this event we are fostering stewardship of the place and ask you to help us take care of this area long term. There is much you can do as an individual to help nature restore and protect this amazing area. This will include a litter collection activity. Many of us do this already on our regular walk on the beach but if we all do it together it creates a larger impact.
