The Friends of Presidents Park commenced in 2022, and the focus is on restoration along the Werribee River, and also on riverine sites above and below this massive 75 hectares of natural floodplain that is Presidents Park.

Presidents Park has some real hidden gems within. It features Tarneet Islands which can be accessed from the park, on the west bank of Werribee River. They are named for the volcanic rocks on which the Diversion Weir is built. 

The islands represent an important cultural landscape for the Wadawurrung and Bunurong Peoples, who shared the river border. This particular area has benefited from planting programs, with restored habitat benefiting both birds and birdwatchers.

Would you like to help with this restoration? This monthly conservation group meets on the 1^st Thursday of the month, 10am – 12noon, between February and November. 

We do move around our working location, so if you can come along, the best option is to contact Maryann Weatherill, Regeneration Officer to confirm the exact location. This month – in September – we’ll be commencing our work from the 2nd Werribee Scout Hall – off Richmond Cres, Werribee.

When you volunteer with the Friends of Presidents Park, you can expect to meet lots of like-minded people, our staff and lead volunteers, and also members of the Wyndham City conservation crew, whom we support.

Activities vary and can include litter clean up, weeding, maintenance, plantings and watering. If you like planting, then get involved during planting season, that is roughly June to August.

Wear comfortable clothing, sturdy footwear and be sun smart. BYO water bottle and own gloves. Tools provided. Light refreshments to follow.
