Holcim partnership day achieves record result at Riverwalk Estate

On Thursday 28 November, the Werribee River Association partnered with Holcim and Wyndham City for a massive clean up, working along the Werribee River in the Riverwalk estate, Werribee, and also around the old Werribee River Regional Park entrance.

Around 20 people participated in the event, including volunteers from the Werribee River Association, working from 9am to 12noon, and ending in a BBQ kindly provided by Holcim.

The site was chosen because of the volume of visible plastics and construction waste that has accumulated along the river area, close to the newly developed homes in Riverwalk. The group also tackled a significant volume of dumped litter, particularly around the old entrance to Werribee River Regional Park.

The litter removed included polystyrene of all sizes, including large building pods, that are easily broken down and are a harmful to human health and the environment.

Two rubbish trucks were engaged to remove the load that was weighed in at the West Rd Refuse Disposal facility amounting to 1400 kilos. Approximately 150 kilos of metals was also salvaged.

This volume of litter was one of the larger amounts removed at a joint event between Werribee River Association, Wyndham City and Holcim; a partnership that has been sustained since 2014.
