Litter and Plastic Pollution

The first community led litter project in Wyndham was set up in 2012 by Werribee River Association (WRA) and other partner agencies. The concern for litter and pollution entering our waterways was and is of ongoing concern. We have undertaken a number of research and advocacy projects, including:

  • In partnership with Deakin University, the Werribee River Association undertook the Litter Research Project. The project examined the state of litter as it impacts on the ability of the river to continue to provide health giving benefits to the people of Werribee. Read the full report here.
  • WRA led a two-year community litter management, education and partnership program in the Werribee River catchment, funded by the Phillip Bay Fund. Find out more in the Litter Blitz Project Report.
  • The Werribee River Association has long advocated for a Container Deposit Scheme. We look forward it’s implementation in 2023.
