River Walk at the Fruit Tree Festival
Join us for a meander along the lower Werribee River, as part of the Fruit Tree Festival. We’ll take the serene track under a canopy of River Red Gums to the Blue Stone Ford, discovering some of the plants and animals that call this part of the world home. We’ll visit the fish passageway that crosses the river and spend some time listening deeply to our surroundings on a short sound walk.
The walk will depart at 12noon from the Werribee Park Heritage Orchard info stand.
More about the festival:
The Werribee Park Heritage Fruit Tree Festival is the largest fruit tree gathering in Australia. It is a day to celebrate growing fruit trees and preserving heritage varieties.
Pick up top tips at grafting and pruning demonstrations, or learn about the historic site on an orchard tour or Werribee River walk. Scion will be available to purchase to add to your fruit trees, as well as rare and heritage fruiting plants and trees to complement the collection in your patch.
Enjoy some live music and dancing, grab a bite to eat, and browse the stalls selling all things gardening. Don’t miss this opportunity to explore the orchard and farm. Be inspired by the thriving community gardens, and explore the historic buildings dating back to the 1800s.
All activities are free, with a gold coin donation for parking.
