Eat My Garden Community BBQ

To welcome old members back for the year, and to meet new friends Eat My Garden and The Werribee River Association are hosting a free community BBQ with live music, kid’s activities, a composting workshop and garden produce swap.

Founded by Point Cook local, Miwako Okumura, Eat My Garden is an ever-growing group of locals who are passionate about gardening, growing food, sharing skills and fostering friendships.

The group began with the construction of a communal herb and veggie garden in a public, and under-utilised space in Point Cook. It is here that they continue to host a produce swap and skill sharing session every 3rd Sunday of the month.

As friendships grow and new faces join the group the garden has expanded, with plans to turn more unproductive space into a food forest, the whole community can benefit from.

We invite you to come to a free community BBQ to find out more about the plans for Eat My Garden and how you can get involved. There will be a music performance from Japanese multi-instrumentalist and folk singer Ayako Fujii, as well as kid’s activities and games and a composting workshop where you can troubleshoot your composting woes. Bring along any excess produce from your garden to swap with your neighbours. Vegan and vegetarian food options will be available.
