Cat Conversations: Be a cat lover and a nature steward

Werribee River Association hosted a webinar this month on Cat Conversations, where Wyndham resident Tamika Jones shared her experience about responsible cat ownership, and how as a cat owner, we can keep cats indoors safely.

A study conducted by the Species Recovery Hub of the Australian Government’s National Environmental Science Program’s research found that pet cats kill 186 animals per year. These numbers include 40 native reptiles, 38 native birds, and 32 native mammals. In cities and towns, there are 40 – 70 roaming pet cats per square kilometre, with their hunting habits resulting in the death of 4440 – 8100 native animals per year.

The webinar has been developed to help people further understand cat containment to ultimately protect wildlife. Please check it out.
